D.C. Michigan Hot Dog Sauce

In large saucepan, combine 2 lbs hamburger, 4-6 medium onions (about 2½”dia.), 2 large green peppers (all chopped fine) and simmer until hamburger is well done.  Continue to chop hamburger with spatula while cooking, to break up finely.  When finished, ADD:

1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

1 heaping Tbsp. mustard seed

1 large jar sweet relish (green)

2 cans Tomato soup (or substitute 1 large can tomato puree)

1 large (44 oz.) bottle Tomato Catsup

2 heaping Tbsp. mustard powder

2 pkgs. Chili mix (or substitute 1 can of chili powder)

1 level tsp. salt

½ tsp. black pepper

Thin to desired consistency with Orange Soda (about 24 oz.)

After all ingredients have been added, you only have to cook this sauce for about 30 minutes longer before serving.  Cook over low heat and stir often.

Note: Sauce can be packed in plastic containers and frozen.  This is MICHIGAN SAUCE, not MEXICAN, and results in a spicy sweet and sour combination.  DO NOT ADD GARLIC, OREGANO, or other Italian spices.  Save them for your spaghetti.
